You all know Westboro Baptist Church. They’re the bunch of crazies that even Christians disown because they protest soldiers funerals and other stupid shit like that because it somehow ties back to gay people, which God apparently hates.
But now they’ve gone completely off the deep end, and they’re now planning to protest Comic-Con. Yes, Comic-Con. Why? Idol worship, of course. Here’s what it says on their website:
“Are you kidding?! If these people would spend even some of the energy that they spend on these comic books, reading the Bible, well no high hopes here. They have turned comic book characters into idols, and worship them they do! Isaiah 2:8 Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made: 9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not. It is time to put away the sillyvanities and turn to God like you mean it. The destruction of this nation is imminent – so start calling on Batman and Superman now, see if they can pull you from the mess that you have created with all your silly idolatry.”
To be fair, in my mind, it’s as equally likely that Superman is likely to save me from death as Jesus, but I guess that’s the point they’re trying to make. I think. I don’t even know. But if there is a hell, I’m pretty sure these guys will be first in line, looking really, really confused.
Catch the protestors for 45 minutes on Thursday from 1:15 to 2PM. Now that’s dedication!
