The Gayest Thing You’ll See All Day

And for all you people that think I’m talking about homosexuals and stuff, I’m really not. I use the word “gay” strictly in the way people use it to describe something that is completely pathetic and ludicrous.
So if you want me to change the title to “The Lamest thing you’ll see all day” I can. But how gay would that sound?

“I use the word “gay” strictly in the way people use it to describe something that is completely pathetic and ludicrous.”
-Although it’s nice to hear you’re conscious of using the word, you’re still being offensive.
Saying something is gay is actually not offensive if you’re using it to describe something that pertains to homosexual activity. Homosexual activity is pretty gay. It’s what gay means.
The offensive part of saying something is gay is when you’re using it to “describe something that is completely pathetic and ludicrous.” By using it this way, you are imply that homosexual activity is “completely pathetic and ludicrous”, which only furthers the persecution of non-heterosexuals.
So. By all means, use “gay” as an adjective when describing homosexual things, but using it as an insult creates a connection between being homosexual and something stupid/awful/lame/pathetic/ludicrous, which doesn’t really help in the quest for acceptance.
I wouldn’t usually explain if I just saw someone saying something was gay, but since you explicitly stated how you were using the word I thought I’d pipe in.
I can’t change you, but maybe I could guilt you by letting you know that you’re not being very progressive/helping fight national stupidity (as you seem to want to do) by using that term as an insult.
Thanks,
Emily
