Fawlty Towers was very much written by John Cleese, so you need to remember that pretty much everything the man does has some of that Python-esque irreverence towards everything from death to religion to history to, yes, even race.

One of those cases where you have to be able to recognize satire when it’s not trying to brain you over the head.

Actually, I believe All In the Family was intentionally racist. Like Sanford and Son. It was like a shock factor/satire thing. Maybe not the satire so much, actually.

man do i feel old after seeing those clips to remember watching those shows.

TV had more impact then.. there wasnt too much of it and it wasn’t crammed with reality crap..
