15 of the Best Bullies in Movies

Movie Bullies

As you all know it’s December.  And what does December mean?  Sure it’s means Christmas.  But it also mean that the movie A Christmas Story will be on at least 500 times either on TNT or some other network.   Clearly this movie is one of your all time classics around the holidays.  But what particularly drew my attention this 368th time around, was Farkas.

Man was he a vicious little bully huh?  Those eyes, those braces.  He was perfect.  Although I do think the line “when I tell you to come, you better come” rubs me the wrong way.

In any event, it reminded how awesome the role of bully is in movies.  Which is why I came up with good list of 15.

Scut Farkas in A Christmas Story

Movie Bullies

Amazingly enough this guy (Zack Ward) had a career after this movie.  Also have to give a shout out to his little twink sidekick Grover Dill.

Melvin Moody – My Bodyguard

Movie Bullies

This is a classic role by Matt Dillon.  He was great at playing a dick back in his early days.  This is definitely an overlooked movie in my opinion.  I mean the guy was so mean he forced the main character to hire a bodyguard.  Now that’s serious stuff man.

Johnny Lawrence in Karate Kid

Movie Bullies

Do I even have to mention this?   Zabka, the ultimate 80′s badboy.  We could also give him two more spots with Greg Tolan from Just one of the Guys and Chaz from Back to School.

Mike Barnes – Karate Kid III

Movie Bullies

If you ask me this movie had way to many homosexual undertones but that’s me.  Even so, Barnes was definitely an extremely hatable character.   This guy (Sean Kanan) wound up doing Soap Operas.

Rick Sandford in Angus

Movie Bullies

Another overlooked bully role played by James Van Der Beek.  Van Der Beek was the pretty boy blond role in this teenage, half-assed comedy.  If you haven’t seen it I suggest you do because that blond geeky chick from Jurassic Park looks pretty decent in it.

Chozen in Karate Kid II

Movie Bullies

Probably one of my favorite actors of all time, Yuji Okumoto.  I even featured this dude in one of my Whatever Happened to articles.  Kudos to Karate Kid for being up on this list three times.

Biff Tannen in Back to the Future

Movie Bullies

You didn’t think I’d leave out Biff did you?  Butthead!

Bruno and Spike in  Lucas

Movie Bullies

This was my excuse to add in Jeremy Piven as a young lad.  Plus his name is Spike!  But still, he and that blond guy who was in Revenge of the Nerds II (Tom Hodges) were pretty damned mean to poor little Cory Haim in this flick.

Buddy Revell in Three O’Clock High

Movie Bullies

No one is allowed to touch this guy, and if you do, watch out.

Stan Gable in Revenge of the Nerds

Movie Bullies

Pretty boy Stan Gable.   “And I know just….what we’re gonna do.”

Neidermeyer in Animal House

Movie Bullies

This guy is incredible.  I’m not sure if it’s more because of his role in Animal House or the fact that he played Maestro in Seinfeld.

Heather Chandler in Heathers

Movie Bullies

Congratulations to a woman for making this list.  I could have also gone with Christine Taylor in The Craft but she ends up getting hers to early.

Ace Merrill in Stand By Me

Movie Bullies

Easily one of the best bullies of all time.  He practically kills River Phoenix and the guy who plays Phoenix’s own brother barely steps in.  Now that’s power.  You gotta love old school Kiefer.  His hair was very blond.

O’bannion in Dazed and Confused

Movie Bullies

Ben Affleck before he was Ben Affleck.  Great role for him.  Obviously a classic.  Did you know O’bannion’s first name was Fred?  I didn’t.

Chet in Weird Science

Movie Bullies

“How about a nice, greasy pork sandwich served in a dirty ashtray?”

No Steve Stiffler from American Pie or Mike Damone from Fast Times at Ridgemont High, its a great list but you left 2 off

This kid’s mom pulled a Shotgun on me??!?!?! you believe that?!?!?!

  6. Nattyon 10 Dec 2008 at 9:06 am

You spelled O’Bannion wrong and neither of those two guys are bullies at all.

Stiffler is mean but by no means a bully and Damone was a little wuss friend who didn’t pick on anyone.

These two are not even in the same league as this 15.

You could have added Teddy Beckersted (played by Matt Mulhern, who went on to co-star in Major Dad) from “One Crazy Summer”. Jeremy Piven was one of his toadies.

A quick story in relation to Bill Paxton… I interviewed him for “The Greatest Game Ever Played”, which he directed, and told him that Chet from Weird Science was voted the #10 biggest dick movie character and he asked me who was voted #1. I told him it was Niedermeyer… and his response was (after laughing hysterically) that he based Chet as 50% Niedermeyer and 50% Seargent Carter. BTW, Bill Paxton is a really, really cool guy.

whoops, forgot to mention, it was Maxim magazines list of the 10 biggest dicks in the movies… sorry

How could you overlook Ed Rooney in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”?

  10. Benjaminon 10 Dec 2008 at 11:02 am

    Francis from “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure”.

  11. Mikeon 10 Dec 2008 at 11:51 am

Agreed with John. How could you forget Teddy Beckersted? He was the ultimate bully the way he drove around in his flashy car and picked on the Stork twins, although I would pick on bobcat goldthwait if i knew him too.

  12. O'Bannon's Brotheron 10 Dec 2008 at 12:07 pm

anyone who knocks up a girl, and doesn’t help pay for the abortion is pretty bad ass in my book! Mike Damone is a bad ass, so i will agree not a bully but def. a bad ass!

  13. Nattyon 10 Dec 2008 at 12:31 pm

    Agreed.

If you’re ever in Seattle head to Kona Kitchen. Chozen (aka: Yuji Okumoto) owns the place and is often hanging out there and mingling with the customers. Totally not a bully in real life.
