The question that caught my attention was:
What is it about footwear that is so sexually appealing to men?

It’s not the footwear, it’s the way the shape of the lower leg changes when you “extend” your toes – as in, stand on tiptoe. So if the women are basically standing flat-footed in the skates, the effect would not be the same.
