The 10 Most Successful (And Some Pathetically Comical) White Rappers of All Time

Published by Natty at 11:00 am under Oddly Enough

White Rappers

It’s not a long list but I did manage to eek out 10 names that are worth mentioning.  A few are obvious.  One is a bunch of Jewish Guys (wahoo!) and a few others are just flat out funny.

But there’s one thing you can’t deny about any of these 10.  Either they are very successful now, or were at some point extremely popular and were rolling in it at that time.

Here are 10 successful (and pathetically comical) white rappers.

Eminem

White Rappers

Stats and BlurbThe Marshall Mathers LP, became the fastest-selling hip hop album in history, followed by an increasing amount of popularity, critical praise, as well as controversy. Ranked at number nine on MTV’s list of The Greatest MCs of All Time, #13 on the MTV’s “22 Greatest Voices in Music” and #82 on Rolling Stone’s “The Immortals”

Why I like him:  At one point he weighed 200 lbs which is absolutely hilarious for a guy who seemed so meager in stature.  Also, his videos are great.

House of Pain

White Rappers

Stats and Blurb:

The group is best known for its 1992 hit single “Jump Around”, which reached #3 in the United States, #6 in Ireland and #8 in the United Kingdom.

Their eponymous debut album (1992) went multi-platinum

Why I like them:  Personally I think their second album Same as it Ever Was is the best rap album in history.  Everlast’s voice is tougher on that album than any voice I’ve ever heard.

Beastie Boys

White Rappers

Stats and Blurb:

They are one of the longest-lived hip hop acts and continue to enjoy commercial and critical success in 2008, more than 20 years after the release of their debut album.

Licensed to Ill became the best selling rap album of the 1980s and the first rap album to go #1 on the Billboard album chart, where it stayed for five weeks. It also reached #2 on the Urban album charts.

Ill Communication, released in 1994, saw the Beastie Boys’ return to the top of the charts when the album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 & peaked at #2 on the R&B/ hip hop album chart

Hello Nasty clocked first week sales of 698,527 in the U.S. and went straight to #1 in the U.S., the UK, Germany, Australia, The Netherlands, New Zealand, and Sweden.

Why I like them:  The Dustin Diamond rumor was amazing.

Marky Mark

White Rappers

Stats and Blurb:

Although his music career was only minimally successful in the Estonia, The Funky Bunch won “Best Dance Act” at the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party in December 1992.

Plus you have to admit when “Good Vibrations” came out Marky Mark was huge.

Music for the People reached #21 in the US Charts.

Why I like him:  The Calvin Klein Shorts

Kid Rock

White Rappers

Kid Rock, is an American musician and actor known for his over-the-top white-trash persona and rap-rocker musical style. He has sold over 25 million records to date.

Bear in mind the first 10 years of his career was “gangster.”  He’s known more now in rock but we can’t forget his roots.

In 1998 he released his debut mainstream album Devil Without A Cause. It sold 11 million albums and contained two #1 hit singles, “Bawitdaba” and “Cowboy”.

Why I like him:  Guy is uglier than sin and gets ridiculous women

Vanilla Ice

White Rappers

Stats and Blurb:

Ice Ice Baby became the first rap single to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Sure it was only one song, but you can’t deny that he was one of if not the most popular performing “artist” in all of 1990.

Why I Like Him:  The song “Ninja Rap” in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II.

3rd Bass (MC Serch and Pete Nice are white)

White Rappers

3rd Bass was an American hip-hop group that rose to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and was notable for being one of the first successful interracial hip-hop groups

The Cactus Album, a critically-acclaimed debut LP that went gold and contained a minor hit in “The Gas Face.”  The single peaked at #5 on Billboard’s Top Rap Singles chart, though it failed to crack the Billboard Hot 100.

Why I like them:  VH1’s The White Rapper Show

Snow

White Rappers

Darrin O’Brien (born October 30, 1969), known by his stage name Snow, is an award-winning Canadian reggae musician/rapper from Toronto, Ontario.

He is best known for the 1993 number-one hit single “Informer”.

The album 12 Inches of Snow sold over 8 million records worldwide, with the single from the album “Informer” remaining #1 on the American Billboard charts for seven consecutive weeks. “Informer” has been recorded twice in the Guinness Book of World Records as the best selling reggae single in U.S. history, as well as the highest charting reggae single in history. A second single, “Girl I’ve Been Hurt”, reached #19 on the Hot 100.

Why I like him:  Dude, his name is Snow

Aesop Rock

White Rappers

Blurb

He was at the forefront of the new wave of underground acts that emerged during the late 1990s/early 2000s. He is signed to El-P’s Definitive Jux label and is a current member of The Weathermen.

Why I Like Him:  I don’t; I just know he’s one of the most popular white rappers out today.

Insane Clown Posse

White Rappers

Stats and Blurb

Insane Clown Posse is an American hip hop duo from Delray, Detroit. The group comprises Joseph Bruce and Joseph Utsler, who perform under the respective personas of the murderous, wicked clowns Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope.

Despite 3 of their albums reaching the status of 10,000-50,000 albums sold per week labels constantly removed their material because of “inappropriate lyrics.  How Disney was ever affiliated with these guys is beyond me.

Why I like them:  People like these guys?  You can’t deny they’re not popular though.

Kid Rock is a definite successful-comical white “artist” of all time, but he is not classified as rap. He is actually labeled as “Rock-a-billy”. A blend of Rock and Country. But if this were a successful-and-some-pathetically-comical-white-musicians-of-all-time, then he should probably be #1

LoonyJ, When kid rock first started his music career, he was DJing parties and his first album was a rap album…pretty badass too i might add

First a shout-out and props to JimGill. Now a request to remove the hate against Jews in the publishing of the first paragraph.

    NEVER AGAIN!
