5 of My Favorite Courtroom Scenes in Movies

Court

I’ve been watching most of the Democratic Convention on television over the past few days and I won’t lie, some of the speeches definitely fire me up. Maybe it’s because I realize I’m an adult now, and some of this stuff actually matters and applies to me.

But it got me thinking about other great speeches. The kinds of speeches and scenes that we pretty much never forget. From “you can’t handle the truth” to grits, I’ve decided to share 5 of my favorite courtroom scenes with you guys.

Atticus Finch Speech in To Kill a Mockingbird

I think this one set the tone for future movies and was incredible. Very memorable and emotional.

Kevin Costner as Jim Garrison in JFK

Costner actually can act, and after a grueling 3 hours this speech is a great cap to the movie.

The Cross Examination of Sam Tipton in My Cousin Vinny

I had to lighten it up here a little. You can pick most any court scene from My Cousin Vinny.

End Trial Scene in Primal Fear

People overlook how amazing Ed Norton was in this movie. Great scene.

“I Want the Truth” - A Few Good Men

I get chills every time I watch this. It’s the best.

The Rule 303 speech in Breaker Morant is a classic military courtroom scene. Breaker Morant is more relevant today than when it was originally released.

I think you forgot a pretty good one in the scene with Matthew McConaughey gives the closing arguments and tells people at the end to picture the girl as white. Pretty good scene from an otherwise bad actor.

Both very good calls fellas. I wasn’t trying to do a best of. These were just five that shot out to me.

But yeah, the Time To Kill speech was very gripping.

This is bullshit. There’s no ‘best courtroom scenes’ list without Tango & Cash.

How about Samuel Jackson in “A Time to Kill”: ‘Hell yes they deserved to die and I hope they burn in hell!’.
