But when these singers go live they have a backing track to fatten up the sound at the live venue. Most of the time they do actually sing live but the record company wants them to sound as much like the studio performance as possible, so they have the backing track. Simpson's situation is where someone was asleep at the switch and the band was able to roll with it and started playing the song they already played. Simpson on the other hand couldn't cope.
