The 10 Real Reasons Josh Childress Signed With Greece

Josh Childress

The most recent news in the NBA reads, “Childress is no longer a Hawk. He said he agreed to terms Wednesday morning on a three-year contract with Olympiakos of Greece that is worth far more than $20 million initially reported.

The deal is the most lucrative current contract in European basketball and the biggest in Euroleague history. Childress then said “I think it was . . . a situation where I didn’t know who to expect coming in, coming over to Athens. But it’s a great city and a great organization. They do whatever they can to make you feel at home.”

I’m convinced Childress had other motivations to make this move. And here they are:

Rony Seikaly

10. If Rony Seikaly can do it….
9. Apparently in Greece, “mushroom fro” is code for “well endowed.”
8. Mykonos or Buckhead? Hmmm
7. How can you possibly be intimated by a guy whose name is Gyro Souvlaki Cous Cous Balls?

David Stern

6. No more having to see this guy and that expression
5. The referees in Greece always bet on black

Olga Farmaki

4. Word is Olga Farmaki is auditioning to be the Team Olympiakos fluffer
3. To find John Amaechi and make him the star of the Euroleague.

Euro

2. Euroleague Cheerleaders.

And Number 1?

Come on guys - The Hummus!

The Hawks are a disaster of an organization. That is crazy money for a 6th man in any country.

The hawks were smart to not give Childress this kind of money. They have enough young guys that could step up and replace his 11 points off the bench.

I love a good plate of hummus as much as the next person but you’ll be hard pressed to find it in Greece. Most people there have never heard of it unless they’re familiar with Middle Eastern food. The Childress deal would be bad for the Hawks financially but a sixth man in the NBA can be a star in Europe. Can your starting five play 48 minutes with all the former bench players living like kings in Europe? Don’t be short sighted, their 11 pts and 15 minutes a game will be sorely missed. This is the beginning of the watering down of talent in the NBA.
