I liked your idea. You inspired me to do the same for my blog... I do fancy myself a Seinfeld aficionado myself. I still watch 3 episodes a day and have been for like 19 years now. Much to my wife's chagrin.

But again, if the years were parallel this would work, and I would say, yeah. But the rise of the Yankees was probably 1993 (7 GB, but over .500 for the first time in ages) into the strike shortened 94 season when they probably would have at least made the WS.

Seinfeld was well engrained into American pop culture after season 3 in 92. Yankees did not officially hit full stride until 95 against the Ms. By 96 they were a powerhouse. Seinfeld was already a powerhouse. And then it (seinfeld) was gone in 98 with the Yanks 125-50 season - heights for both, agreed. But the Yanks kept going and are technically still going as they have made the playoffs every year since.

But you've inspired me to try something similar... With those guest stars I mentioned... This is now my 'white whale!'

Thanks for the advice Keith.

Jesus I didn't know I'd be getting this kind of outcry. If I had more than a half an hour to write the article I'd have gone into more detail.

If you think you can even remotely challenge me on Seinfeld and it's parallels we can have a phone discussion and I will post it here.

You are kidding right? Some of those same idiots that weren't winning the playoffs and world series against the Sox (Red and White), Diamond Backs, Indians, Tigers etc. are still there. These players don't care? You have to be kidding. Granted fans care more than players, but come on...

The point you need to be making is that 'guest' stars like Justice, Wells, Cone, El Duque, Brosius, Tino, Strawberry, Gooden, Clemens, Mendoza, Stanton, Nelson, Soriano and Leyritz are not there anymore. The 4 stars are still there (Jeter, Posada, Mariano and Pettitte.

It is always the 'guests' in baseball that make the 'show' work. Nto vice versa.

I think you mostly got things right, but you missed a couple of other parallels. The Seinfeld finale was like the 2001 World Series against Arizona - it should have been absolutely amazing, but instead it stuttered and stalled to an end. If you watch the finale now, it was actually better than everyone thought at the time, but maybe those Yanks were too. And the Yankees since 2001 have been like the attempts by Jason Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Michael Richards to continue old glories with new personnel. The Yankees have had some good moments, many disappointments, and a couple of absolute atrocities (2004 ALCS); Louis-Dreyfus has had very few moments on her sitcom, Alexander's been a wash, and Richards also has had a complete meltdown. I think the comparison is now complete.

You could say the same thing about Growing Pains.

Except Maggie Seaver couldn't throw much of a change-up.
