The 80’s Were Uncoached - Better Off Dead
I don’t think people realize how unbelievable and yet how strange the movie Better off Dead was. It’s pretty much impossible to articulate in print.
But I’ll give it a shot. Let’s start with the characters. Lane Meyer was played by John Cusack. That’s too easy.
You got the asian driving twins, one of them being the bully in Karate Kid 2. You got the French girl Monique played by Diane Franklin, one of the maidens in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
Hedley Lamar, played by Curtis Armstrong, or Booger from Revenge of the Nerds. Ricky Fitts, played by fat Dennis from “Head of the Class.” The father was even legitimate. He was one of the stars of the show “Mash.”
And even the mom was the quirky science teacher in Teen Wolf 2. I could seriously go on. Dottie from Pee Wee’s Big Adventure was the singer at the dance, his teacher was Mr. Vargas from Fast Times at Ridgemont high. The character Beth was in some shit. It’s truly remarkable.
Now that we have that. I’ll share some lines that I particularly enjoyed. “Fronch Dressing. Fronch Fries. And Look! Peru!!!”
“Didn’t ask for a dime. Two dollars. Cash.”
“Come on little buckaroo!”
“Gee I’m real sorry your mom blew up Ricky.”
